about 40 minutes of writing, but I have an outline with citations for my dissertation proposal.  next up is figuring out what text I can recycle and what needs to be new (also need to know how long this thing needs to be)...but I can't very well consider that "writing time."  up for tomorrow, writing the study area section for my second qualifying exam/seminar paper/rice cropping system methods paper/dissertation in general.
okay time to get serious about this.  I'm outlining my dissertation proposal today, starting now, so that it can be in final form (with hopefully preliminary results and some sections drafted) by my first committee meeting in April.

At least the cookie believes in me!
Day 11 - 35 minutes complete, caught up on polycentricity.  Will finish polycentricity section tomorrow, and plug away at remainder of article as well (Saturday).  Monday's goal will be the spatial restructuring section.

Next draft out. That session spurred lots of thought and new connections. Now if I just had the time to flush those out and get them on paper before this deadline : ) It's getting there..
Day 11 - 30 minutes of writing starting now!
60 minutes to clean up this abstract.. starting now!!

Day 10 - first abstract finished and submitted!  On to abstract number two...

Day 10 - it's abstract day!  Need to do more on the background section, but today's limited amount of time will have to be dedicated to the multitemp abstract.  Here goes nothing...

Need a change of scenery but I'll come back to it soon!
About to finish this abstract draft! Well, fingers crossed!

Restarted the abstract and feeling really good about it. Still more work to go, but I am going to do some reviewing of readings and write my questions for class on Friday and try to return to writing later this evening.
Day 9 - Finished a solid 50 minutes of writing on the background this morning, followed by nearly two hours this afternoon.  Still combing through background literature, but making a dent.  More on polycentricity and spatial restructuring tomorrow.  Now if only the image processing was progressing as smoothly...
Have forgotten to post the past couple days! Definitely didn't achieve my 30 minutes yesterday though. I did write a little bit here and there.. something is better than nothing I guess! Retooling my abstract now.
Day 9 - I will write this background section.  I will write this background section.  I will write this background section.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Day 8 continued - argh, never got to the background.  I did keep working on the drivers paper, though, and pulled some stats from other papers for the background.  Does that count?
Day 8 - finished about 60 minutes on the drivers paper.  Onto part 2, background.
Day 8 - writing now!

Monday, February 11, 2013

Not sure how much new writing went on as opposed to copying, pasting, shuffling my NESSF proposal -- but I did do a lot of thinking about what exactly I want on this poster and how to summarize in 250 words.  On the docket for tomorrow -- outlining my paper for Annemarie's seminar / thinking more about mapping cropping patterns...

AAG Abstract

Apparently I have a ghost abstract that is currently accepted for a poster at the AAG conference session Land Use and Land Cover Change, but there is no text for it yet, which I'm certain is frowned upon...better fill that in!  Here we go...

LDCM launched successfully!  Here's to another few decades of writing papers using Landsat data!
Day 7, part two - lost 30 minutes to watch the LDCM launch, but just finished 25 minutes of writing on the drivers paper.  Hooray!  For tomorrow - finish background and review of stats before meeting with Jen at 1 pm.
Day 7 - 50 minutes complete! Will continue with drivers paper, and also the background section
Day 7 - It's Monday, so here we go... Writing now!
Day 6 - Despite all my best efforts, no writing occurred. This bothered me all day. My commitment to 365 days of writing remains, however!

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Ending my writing session, and have definitely learned something about my writing m o --- Why use one word when you can use twenty?! Not useful for abstract drafting...!
Day 3 writing.. starting now!

Saturday, February 9, 2013

Not a terribly productive day of writing for me : ( But I have words on paper, so that's a start! Will come back to expand on the abstract tomorrow.
Day 2 for me and going to try to piece together a first draft of an abstract for MultiTemp2013.
Day 5 - it's Saturday, but my streak continues! With Ela sleeping, I fit in 30 minutes just now. Will continue for another 10 if I can, but this drivers paper is tough, and I am low on coffee...

Friday, February 8, 2013

Day 4 - argh!  could keep writing for two more hours, but at least I fit in 30 min!  Tomorrow, I will get back to the Western China paper, and wrap up the data section on the drivers paper with Jen.  Still have to read the rest of it...
Day 4 - The babysitter canceled this morning and I am not quite prepared for class, but I am going to squeeze in 30 minutes of writing right now!  I will be working on my drivers paper, so hopefully that can also double as 'prep for class' :)
A good 70 minute run! Although let's be honest.. email checks and other such distractions put the actual writing time somewhere in the 30-60 range. But still met the goal and on my first day, so I'm satisfied :) On the docket for tomorrow, revisions to my pre-proposal from last semester!
Here goes nothin!! Excited to establish some new habits - and writing 30-60 a day is not a bad one to pick up. Have finished some reading and now ready to sit down and write..

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Day 3 - winding down, unfortunately.  Made a dent on 'urbanization following Chinese reforms', will continue with this section tomorrow.  Really need to look at methods/results, though, so I can give Chaoyi tasks...

Day 3 - getting a late start due to Ela's dentist appointment, but here we go.... writing now!

Maps are fun.  Writing about them is even better.
Day 1, project #2 - about one-third of the way through Jennifer's draft.  More on this tomorrow.  Just have to get through this by next Tuesday!
Day 1, project #2 - well, when one has so many papers in the pipeline, the writing must take precedence.  Starting writing on the drivers paper with Jennifer now!
Finally put in my 60 minutes on urbanization in Western China.  Tomorrow's plan - get further on the background section.  Ugh.  I will do better tomorrow.

Villages in Yunnan.  Inspiration?
Day 1 continued.  Okay, now I am really starting to write.
Day 1.  Started the blog, and darn it, it is time to write.  Starting 30 minutes right now.
