Summer day 27 - Failure.  I did not write for one hour as intended, but I blame a number of small catastrophes at home this morning and a major allergy attack from having to wait outside for the bus.  Yes, 10 minutes outside pretty much kills a whole day, despite the massive cocktail of drugs I take on a 4-hour rotation.

All that being said, I did finish writing progress report #5, I finished a figure, developed a poster, and on the writing front, spent time composing an awesome caption for the aforementioned figure.  See below!

Figure 7.   Scatter plots illustrating the size and location of satellite cities outside major metropolitan areas in Western China: (a) Chengdu, (b) Xi’an, (c) Kunming and (d) Urumqi.  Note the inverse relationship between the average annual rate of change and distance to the core city.  The grey area denotes the extent of the contiguous urban core by the end of the study period (2009), so any cities that fall within this area have been enveloped by the core between 1988 and 2009.
